"On February 20, 2026, I took over the long-established gynecology practice of Dr. med. Michael Rabner. I would like to express my sincere thanks to Dr. Rabner for the trust he has placed in me, for the careful handover, and for the collegial collaboration throughout the transition.

My aim is to continue the practice responsibly in his spirit while also contributing my own perspective. For you as a patient, this means above all reliability, continuity, and the seamless continuation of your existing treatments and care.

I look forward to continuing to support you and to personally welcoming you to my practice.“

What to do in case of urinary leakage and pelvic floor problems?

What is frequent urination?
If you need to urinate significantly more often than usual or experience a sudden, difficult-to-control urge to urinate, medical professionals refer to this as frequent urination or urinary urgency. Possible causes include hormonal changes, weakened pelvic floor muscles, or an overactive bladder.

Is involuntary urine leakage normal?
No. Although many women are affected, urinary incontinence is considered a treatable medical condition. You do not have to simply accept it.

What are possible causes?
Common contributing factors include pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, previous surgery, or age-related changes. Intense physical activity or chronic coughing can also weaken the pelvic floor.

How is the condition evaluated in our practice?
Evaluation begins with a detailed consultation and a targeted clinical examination. If necessary, modern diagnostic methods such as urodynamic testing may be used to determine the exact cause.

What treatment options are available?
Depending on the findings, structured pelvic floor exercises and physiotherapy are often sufficient. In some cases, medication or, if appropriate, surgical treatment may also be considered. The goal is always a lasting improvement in your quality of life.

When should I schedule an appointment?
You should arrange an appointment once symptoms begin to affect your daily life or if you feel uncertain. Early evaluation generally improves treatment outcomes.

Can I do anything preventively?
Regular pelvic floor training, maintaining a healthy body weight, and strengthening the core muscles can support long-term pelvic floor function. We are happy to advise you individually.

When and how often should I visit a Gynecologist?

From the age of 21, it is recommended to undergo a yearly gynecological examination, ideally including a Pap smear for early detection of cervical cancer. Basic health insurance typically covers a routine examination every three years. More frequent examinations may be medically advisable and may be covered by supplementary insurance.

Do you also treat adolescents and young Women?

Yes. In our pediatric and adolescent gynecology consultation, we specifically address the concerns of girls and young women. Dr. Corinna Heitmann has specialised in this field for more than 20 years. The consultation focuses on: physical development puberty changes or concerns regarding the external genital area.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

Depending on your needs and preferences, the first appointment may consist of a consultation only or include a medical examination. Possible topics include: physical changes, contraception, sexually transmitted infections, menstrual cycle concerns or symptom evaluation. Medical confidentiality applies even for minors. If you have questions about confidentiality, please feel free to discuss them with us.

What is a PAP- Test and what else is examined?

During a PAP-Test, a small brush is used to collect a sample of cells from the cervix. The sample is analysed by pathologists in a laboratory to detect potential cellular abnormalities at an early stage. Results are usually available within about one week. Depending on the situation, we may also examine: the breasts, the vulva, the internal reproductive organs (uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries).

Which foods should I avoid during pregnancy?

During pregnancy, we recommend avoiding:
- Raw meat or raw sausage (e.g. steak tartare, cured ham)
- Raw milk products or raw milk cheese
- Raw fish (e.g. sushi).
Fish is healthy in moderate amounts (up to approx. 340 g per week). However, consumption should be limited due to potential mercury exposure.

Pregnancy and cats – is this a problem?

Cats can transmit the parasite Toxoplasma gondii which may be harmful to the unborn child. Transmission occurs through cat faeces. Pregnant women should avoid cleaning the litter box whenever possible. If this cannot be avoided, wear gloves and wash your hands thoroughly afterwards.

Is Alcohol allowed during pregnancy?

Alcohol consumption during pregnancy can lead to serious developmental disorders in the unborn child. Because no safe amount of alcohol during pregnancy is known, we strongly recommend complete abstinence from alcohol throughout pregnancy.

Contact with Shingles during pregnancy – What should I do?

If you had chickenpox during childhood, you are generally immune. In this case, contact with someone who has shingles (herpes zoster) usually does not pose a risk to you or your baby. If you are unsure whether you are immune, we can clarify this with a blood test.
